Reading comprehension (3ème) : Religious tolerance in Burkina Faso

Religious tolerance in Burkina Faso.

Bamba grew up listening to the stories his father told him. Their home was in Bobo-Dioulasso, the second largest city in Burkina Faso and a place which is known for its tolerance. The name reflects two of the major ethnic groups found in the population : the Bobo and the Dioulasso.

When Bamba was young, it was normal for children to visit each other's place of worship. On religious festive days, Catholic children would visit the local mosque and Muslim children would go to church.

In Burkina Faso, we still have the intelligence to allow different religious groups to co-exist. In other words, Burkina Faso has a great religious diversity and tolerance that make it an exception. Its model of religious coexistence remains solid. Burkina has never suffered civil war or religious conflicts. Animists, christians and Muslims are neighbours, live together and inter-marry. In the same family, we may have Animists, Christians and Muslims. To go further, we even have a Muslim's son who became a Catholic priest.
